What Makes A Man

Distorted representations, as perpetrated by culture, education and media can contribute to us not knowing who we truly are. A vast array of false role models, interpretations and ideals around gender identity have ensured that we do not clearly know what it means to be a man, or a woman, in relationships, work or family.

These manufactured pictures and models of what it supposedly means to be a man can be a major cause for conflict. They can contribute to many social and health problems that cannot be resolved without changing our understanding of who we truly are and then with that understanding, develop a way of living.

A man who lovingly understands, knows and cares for himself will be much more sensitive and able to take care of his lifestyle, state of health, how he will be in his marriage, his family, his relationships and in his attitude towards work.

It is crucial for true health and well-being that men and women understand and develop an intimate relationship with what men naturally are beyond the stereotypes and socially learned behaviours.

Women can only benefit from getting to understand men beyond the stereotypical pictures and behaviours and thus learn new ways of relating with and supporting men.

What Makes a Man offers an opportunity to reflect on and develop an understanding of who we naturally are by recognising the imposed pictures of what we are expected to be through social conditioning. With this deeper sensitivity and understanding we can consider changing unloving behaviours and develop more loving, healthy and responsible ways to live our lives.

This course is open to both men and women.

Beyond the Stereotypes and Roles

Before we are identified by our physical gender we are equally sensitive beings in our essence. From a young age as boys, we are not supported to know who we truly are nor to explore what we feel, instead we are encouraged to play hard, toughen up, not cry and not be emotional.

This session is an exploration of the typical roles we, as men, find ourselves in. What are the classic masculine stereotypes and how have we aligned to these.

Sensitivity – A Man’s True Strength

When we as men embrace our sensitivity, when we not only resurrect but also restore our sensitivity, we can see that this perceived weakness is in fact a strength that can be harnessed and utilised to enrich our lives.

This session will support participants to understand the true meaning of sensitivity, shedding any preconceived notions of how this may or may not relate to masculinity.

Knowing Yourself by Feeling & Expressing As Who You Are

Feeling is our first rate instrument that offers us the possibility of building in a way where we can remain true to something we can fully trust – our innate sensitivity, our sense of life and ourselves.

This session will offer participants the space to consider and be sensitive to where they are in knowing what they feel and being able to express those feelings.

Men at Work

Industry by industry, profession by profession we have a broken ecosystem that leads humanity ever further from the direction it should be heading. Can we then consider on a personal level, how wide is the impact of our relationship with work?  Have we considered what is true wisdom, at work?  This presentation will go there.

Relationships – Putting It All Into Practice

The presentation will explore some of the factors that contribute to and can get in the way of men truly being transparent in their personal relationships exploring topics such as the roles we play, the action of rejection and subsequent behaviours such as withdrawing, manipulation, pushing away, controlling, dominating or submitting that can follow.

The presentation will support men to find references points within themselves to confirm who they truly are, as opposed to the roles and identities they may have adopted.
